Staying safe in the sun

This sunlight factfile is a great way for learners to discuss how people keep safe in sunny weather conditions. It explains why sunlight is important, what the UV index is and suggests a variety of ways we can protect ourselves from the sun. Learners could read and discuss this in pairs, groups or as a whole class.

Step by step

  1. Read the sunlight information sheet with learners. Learners could do this independently, in pairs, small groups or as a class. 
  2. Discuss what they and their family do to keep safe.
  3. Ask leaners to make their own poster to communicate how to keep safe in hot conditions.

This activity can be used to support curriculum knowledge and skill development in PSHE, alongside enhancing nature education, with age appropriate adaptations.
